NEW
TECHNOLOGIES:
Research suggests that the use of traditional billboards will
gradually decline and become replaced with digital billboards
and interactive kiosks. Interactive and video formats will replace
the static image and current passivity of postings, large and
small.
Wireless,
satelite and web technologies will spur on the growth in digital
Outdoor and allow for interactive advertisements in mass transit,
shopping plazas, tourist areas, department stores, grocery stores,
airports and hotels. A simple onsite, electronic concierge to
find local restaurants, for example, will be useful to
the consumer and provide enhanced advertising disguised
as information.
Display
technologies are also changing the future of Outdoor. With the
invention of organic light emitting diodes (OLED), displays will
become literally more flexible and cheaper in energy consumption.
And while the technology is a few years from market on a large
scale, predictions about wall-size displays are within the decade.
